For the past several months 30+ volunteers have been having Team meetings to prepare to go inside the prison walls of Bartlett State Jail in Bartlett, Texas to minister to 42 Kairos candidates. You can show the candidates our church is representing the family of God by:
Thanks to you and many others, many inmates will go home and not be recognized by their families. They will never be the same. There were 42 of them and they were really ready to receive what God had for them, as they had been hearing about the week-end for some time. They are aware of Kairos because we go in every Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 and group with them at what is called Kairos Prayer and Share. Kairos Prayer and Share is really the Heart of Kairos where we Listen, Listen and Love, Love.
On the Kairos Week End which is Thursday night to Sunday afternoon, we give 11 talks and around 8 to 10 meditations. Most of the talks are from lay volunteers and most of the meditations are given by several clergy. The first talk is called “Choices” where we explained they are in there because of the choices they made, not because God wanted them there. The second talk is “You Are Not Alone” where we explain God Loves them. We show them Agape posters made by Churches, Christian groups, children’s Sunday School classes, Emmaus communities, and even other Kairos Prison inmates from other prisons.
During this talk we brought out the Prayer Chain many of you and many from other churches across the country volunteered to pray for 30 minutes. It was around 200 — 250 ft long and was draped around the room at the top of the walls. They were told that after the talk they may walk around the room and examine them. So after the talk, this man went over and looked at it and the first one he examined was from his mother. Then the two next to it were also his mother. Needless to say, he wept, as did many of us. This was not random!!! There are many more stories I can tell that will really humble you.
We were short some volunteers on the inside team and the outside team, but God equipped each of us with what was needed. And part of what was needed came from you. If you baked cookies, prayed, donated funds, or encouraged us you responded to Matthew 25:36 “I was in prison and you visited me”. There were over 50 of you who responded.
Thank you! This is an AWESOME CHURCH!!!
