WHEREAS, | having been first organized as a circuit of the Georgetown Mission of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1850, the First United Methodist Church ofBelton will celebrate its 150th Anniversary this year; and |
WHEREAS, | the first church building was completed in the early 1860's, but due to a growing congregation, the church was rebuilt in 1886 at its present location on East Street; and |
WHEREAS, | through the years, the First United Methodist Church has continued to flourish and prosper under the leadership of 64 pastors; and |
WHEREAS, | the City of Belton is honored to participate in this Sesquicentennial Worship Celebration and commends the First United Methodist Church for its many years of service in Christianity to the citizens of Belton and its surrounding communities. |
NOW THEREFORE, I, BILL HOLMES, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BELTON, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Sunday, November 19, 2000 as | |
