The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) gets food to hungry people—nutritious fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste.

IN THE UNITED STATES

• 38.2 million (11.9%) of Americans live in households that experience hunger or are at risk for hunger. The 2006 Federal Poverty Guideline is $20,000 for a family of four.

• 13 million children live below the poverty line.

• 40% of people requesting emergency food assistance in American cities are employed.

IN THE WORLD...

• More than 852 million people in the world are malnourished—more than 53 million of them are under the age of 5.

• Of the 6.4 billion people in the world, 1.2 billion live on less than $1.00 per clay.

• In developing countries, 11 million children die before their 5th birthday, more than half of them from hunger-related causes.

Our church began supporting The Society of St. Andrew at the request of a former president of Methodist Men a few years ago. We have continued supporting it ever since. The group claims to be non-denominational, but seems to have Anglican or Presby roots.
